Who We Are

Broad Community Connections (BCC)

BCC led the development of the ReFresh Project, co-owns the building, and leads the ReFresh Collaborative.  BCC is a non-profit, community development organization devoted to revitalizing Broad Street as a vibrant, equitable, and inclusive commercial corridor by promoting the health and economic, residential, and cultural development of its diverse surrounding neighborhoods. Neighbors living along Broad Street started BCC after Hurricane Katrina in an effort to rebuild our community and ensure people living here were able to thrive. broadcommunityconnections.org

The ReFresh Collaborative

The ReFresh Collaborative is a Collective Impact Initiative of community members and organizations based in the neighborhood working together to make health equity a reality.  Led by BCC, ReFresh Collaborative partners include community leaders, housing advocates, health education organizations, health care professionals, grassroots organizations, and more.

The ReFresh Collaborative offers free health programming for kids and adults, hosts fun community events, and advocates for policy changes that address the root cause of health disparities.  Click on the “Get Involved” tab above for information on how to participate!

Our Vision

The goal of the ReFresh Collaborative is to achieve health equity in neighborhoods surrounding the ReFresh Project. We work specifically to make sure that all people in ReFresh neighborhoods are able to and supported in leading a healthy lifestyle, and that all people in these neighborhoods are financially secure and able to build wealth.

If we reach our goal:

  • All people who live, learn, work, worship and play in Refresh neighborhoods will experience their highest physical, mental, social and emotional health potential
  • No one will be disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of social position or other socially determined circumstances
  • All people will live in thriving communities where they have the tools, education and supports needed to be healthy and happy
